eMarketer is a dynamic, growing company that provides market research and trend analysis on Internet, e-business, online marketing, media and emerging technologies. We maintain the most comprehensive database of e-business and online marketing statistics in the world.
We are looking for someone to assist our webmaster/designer in developing new ideas and maintaining our internal and external websites. You should have a solid graphic design background with good HTML/CSS skills. You will also work with our in-house programmers, the IT department, and various internal business users. This is a great opportunity to grow with our company and expand your skills/responsibilities over time.
We work in a Windows environment, so you must have experience working on Windows computers. This is a full-time job in New York City’s financial district. We have a relaxed atmosphere but we all work hard.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Help the web designer explore new design ideas, create and post mock-ups, manage project schedules, communicate with business users about design changes, and write instructions for programmers.
- Create simple HTML/CSS mock-ups and wireframes based on static Photoshop or Fireworks files (no table-based code allowed).
- Help design and maintain several WordPress blogs (including helping to create blog-based documentation for our web applications).
- Troubleshoot display and rendering issues on different browsers and operating systems.
- Test web applications and provide feedback on usability.
- Research new web technologies.
- Web site maintenance, including text edits, link updates, etc.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE IS SOMEONE WHO:
- Has a keen eye for detail, a well-developed sense of typography, a strong interest in creating elegant user experiences, a great memory for technical details, and excellent communication skills.
- A willingness to learn and develop a deep understanding of web 2.0 design and production technologies.
- Cares about usability, so all design decisions are made with the user in mind.
- Can develop multiple unique stylistic approaches to a problem.
- Can communicate clearly about design and related technical requirements.
- Is fluent in HTML/CSS, can build rapid prototypes and implement designs with clean, hand-coded HTML/CSS.
- Understands back-end technology. (No need to write code, but we need someone who can work around and within ASP and PHP code.)
- Is happy to help with website maintenance on a day-to-day basis and has the patience required for solving tricky (and sometimes tedious) CSS issues.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s in Graphic Design, Digital Media Design, Information Design or equivalent, with 1-2 years work experience. (Or Bachelor’s in an unrelated field plus 2-3 years work experience.)
- Strong working knowledge of HTML/CSS and proven ability to work with Fireworks (preferred) or Photoshop.
- High attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Excellent analytical or critical thinking skills.
- Quick aptitude for learning new software.
- Highly motivated to achieve client satisfaction.
- Self-starter with a strong sense of accountability.
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with WordPress or Drupal
- Experience with Flash
- Familiarity with .NET and VisualStudio
- Knowledge of (or interest in) JavaScript and helper libraries (including jQuery, Prototype, Scriptaculous, MooTools, etc.)
- Experience with print design (inDesign or Quark XPress)
All applicants must include a cover letter, your resume, and links so I can see your portfolio or sites you have worked on.
No unsolicited phone calls please. We’re busy working.
