Director, Business Intelligence



The Business Intelligence Director has overall management responsibility for planning, directing, and coordinating activities of the Business Intelligence Department. Ensures the department supplies support for an enterprise wide business intelligence framework that will provide the The Methodist Hospital System (TMHS) organization with the appropriate tools, evidence and knowledge to optimize effective evidence-based decision-making.



Directs a dynamic team of individuals who are responsible for providing the information and analysis tools necessary for effective decision making to allow business units to assess and improve performance of the organization.



' Owns the Business Intelligence/Data Management (BI/DM) strategy & budget.

' Responsible for effective governance of BI constituents.

' Oversees program and project managers, architects, technologists, specialists, and analysts.

' Works to liaison between the business and the BI/DM team.

' Works with VP and service lines to secure and maintain funding.

' Develops marketing and communications program for the BI Program.

' Communicates benefits of the BI environment to executives and users.



What You Will Be Doing:

1. Overall responsibility for providing strategic leadership to TMHS for the Business Intelligence Department in the areas of Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, Dashboards, Cost Accounting systems and other associated systems.

2. Works with senior IT leadership to develop the vision and business case for the Business Intelligence Department.

3. Establishes and implements short and long range organizational goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness.

4. Represents the BI program and Department to executives and other directors.

5. Creates a high-level, enterprise architecture to support a growing portfolio of BI applications.

6. Interfaces with business sponsors, executives and steering committees.

7. Engages and interfaces with affiliate and industry counterparts to advance goals and objectives through collaboration.

8. Meets business criteria for successful BI implementations.

9. Assures development & documentation standards are enforced.

10. Ensures BI projects are in alignment with TMHS mission, vision, and business strategies.

11. Facilitates the creation and maintenance of a governance structure for the BI department that is consistent and furthers the endeavors of the hospitals, Research Institute, Physician Organization and other institutions.

12. Facilitates the prioritization of projects and requirements among competing business interests by utilizing governance structure.

13. Manage and advise staff as needed to improve data quality and value, and utilize their skills to assist in achieving the departmental objectives.

14. Develop, implement and maintain automated and integrated methodologies for data collection, retrieval presentation, analysis and interpretation.

15. Designs, establishes and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the departments goals and objectives; recruits, employs, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff.

16. Develops and manages the annual operating budget for the department.



Education / Experience

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline with an information technology focus required; Master's degree preferred.

2. Ten+ years Information Technology experience, including Eight+ years experience working with business intelligence systems environment required and seven+ years of management experience.

3. Extensive business intelligence systems experience.

4. Strong understanding of data warehouse architecture and database experience using SQL Server and/or Oracle.

5. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple systems, projects and staff in a fast-paced environment with shifting deadlines and priorities

6. Demonstrated ability to implement new technology, maintain reliability and security of current technology, coordinate technology with third party vendors and provide excellent customer service to customers

7. Demonstrated ability to set and implement strategic initiatives that will place the organization as a leader within its market and posses the ability to be a catalyst for change in order to drive improvement through the organization

8. Must work and communicate effectively with Senior Leadership as well as physicians and other clinical personnel to enhance clinical and financial performance

9. Strong understanding of how to leverage business applications for competitive advantage

10. Excellent analytical, organization, prioritization and oral/written communication skills

11. Strong leadership skills that include the ability to motivate employees, effective recruitment and retention of staff, mentoring of employees for career advancement, and effective handling of managerial solutions, including planning, control, problem solving, and communication



Healthcare IT experience preferred.
