Senior Database Engineer
The position will focus on design and implementation of the data tier for a database intensive analytics web application built on a Microsoft SQL2005 backbone. We utilize the entire SQL2K5 technology stack — including the enterprise capabilities of the database server, Analysis Services for OLAP, SSIS for ETL and data integration, and Reporting Services for building reports. The successful candidate will be a member of the core platform team and responsible for the design and implementation of application and data tier functionality leveraging the above-mentioned technology components. As a member of a small team delivering an online software as a service offering, all DB engineers on the team are also expected to have some production support responsibilities.
The ideal candidate is an engineer with a solid computer science foundation, an analytical mind with good communications and problem solving skills, and 7-10 years of professional experience. In addition, a solid background in relational database modeling and experience building high performance database-intensive transactional applications is required. The candidate must be able to analyze SQL queries for performance bottlenecks and optimize such queries with a structured approach. Specific experience on the SQL2K5 platform is required. Familiarity with OLAP and data warehousing concepts and OLAP modeling is a plus, but not a strict requirement for this position. Experience with advanced SQL server capabilities such as partitioning, replication, and service broker and the ability to use these features to scale out data intensive applications is a strong plus.
The following skills are required
• Experience building database intensive web applications in Java or .Net
• Strong grounding in relational database concepts and data modeling on the SQL Server 2005 platform.
• Strong understanding of transaction processing concepts
• SQL query execution fundamentals and query optimization principles.
• Data integration and ETL – Strong SSIS background is required
Familiarity with the following is desired
• Analytical schema design and OLAP – Prior experience with Analysis Services is a strong plus.
• Advanced SQL skills on SQL2005 platform.
Candidate should have
• Undergraduate degree or higher in Computer Science
• Minimum 5 years of experience building high performance database applications, 7-10 years of total experience.
• Good communication skills and ability to communicate design intent outside code
• Good estimation skills, ability to meet tight deadlines and work in a fast paced environment
• Authorization for full time legal employment in the US – US Citizen or Green Card Holder
